Background

Southlands is very proud of to be awarded a specialist status back in 1998.

Technology College status does not mean they are a technical college, or that they only do technological subjects. Pupils at Southlands follow a broad and balanced curriculum, but they do have a technological ethos throughout the school.

They also run many special projects within the subjects of Design and Technology, Mathematics, Science and ICT. Many of these projects provide our pupils with additional opportunities to excel in these subjects, both within and beyond the normal curriculum.

Part of our responsibility as a Specialist School includes working with our partner schools, community groups and local businesses. In addition to the community benefits provided, Southlands’ pupils benefit either directly or indirectly from these events. For instance nearly all of our current pupils had their first introduction to Southlands whilst still at their Primary School, visiting our ICT suites as part of their KS2 to KS3 transition programme.
